This Athabaskan caribou skin outfit was made by Sally Hudson, Fairbanks. She is an Athabaskan Indian and a Daughter of the American Revolution. "I made the dress like our people made it before they had beads, so they used whatever they had -- the white with the feathers is porcupine quills and the feathers are from the neck part of a spruce hen. The moccasins are the same style made many years ago. As the years passed, the traders brought beads in, so I added beads. The beads were added to the head band and necklace. Otherwise, they'd use porcupine quills. Sixty or more hours went into making this little outfit, the hardest was making the pattern. But it's a very rewarding feeling when you see something fit perfectly. I enjoyed making it." Sally Hudson insisted that Anna carry the Alaska flag when wearing her caribou dress.
